Frequently Asked Questions
General Countertop FAQ
We’d like to visit you in YOUR space to get ideas going. We’ll do a dimensioned layout of your countertops and, depending on product line, we can give you a quote while there or within 24hrs. If you’re simply replacing your existing countertops, your old tops will remain in place until we return to install the new ones. If it’s new construction or all new cabinets we’ll need to wait to measure until all the new cabinets are set.
2-3 weeks from time of measure for solid surface. 5-8 weeks for laminate
You as the homeowner are welcome to do so, to allow for any small repairs to drywall and the like. With our solid surface lines, removal and disposal is included as part of the complete package pricing. Other product lines assess individual charges as necessary.

Solid Surface Countertop FAQ
Solid surface sinks are chemically-bonded to the countertop creating a smooth, one-piece look from countertop to sink. There are no grout lines, lips or recesses to collect bacteria and mold.
Consistency of pattern and color, plus chemical bonding to fuse solid surface pieces provide very inconspicuous seams. Seams are solid, flush to the surface and impermeable. There is no grout to clean, and liquids cannot penetrate the surface.
Since it is nonporous, stains will not seep into the surface. Surface stains are easily wiped away with soap and water or buffed away for good.
Solid surfaces are non-porous and very easy to clean.
Solid surface materials can be damaged by high heat and direct flame. Minor heat damage usually can be buffed away. More severe heat damage can be inconspicuously repaired. Trivets are recommended to protect countertops against exposure to extreme heat.
Solid surface does not require special cleaning products and it does not need sealed. Soap and water will wipe away most stains. Minor scratches and burns can be buffed away without impacting the look or finish. More serious damage can usually be repaired.
We typically finish our tops to a matte finish. Surfaces with a gloss or semi-gloss finish may require more maintenance than a matte or satin finish – scratches may be more apparent and require a more detailed buffing technique. Darker colors also may require more maintenance.

The basic rule of thumb is to only use a mild abrasive with a blue or green Scotch Brite® pad for LG/LX HI-MACS® solid surface installed with a matte finish. If the surface was installed with a gloss finish, stick with ammonia based glass cleaner like 409® and do not use any abrasive cleaning pad. Download our Care and Maintenance document for additional information.
Scratches and cuts can be buffed away with a light duty scrubbing pad and a mild abrasive cleanser. Clean thoroughly with soap and water and let dry. Any scratch on a high gloss finish countertop should be removed by a professional fabricator. For knife cuts, deep cuts, gouges and chips, contact your fabricator. The damage is repairable but may require special tooling and expertise. Visit our Care and Maintenance page for more information.
Thanks to its unique technology, LG/LX HI-MACS® withstands most everyday stains. We recommend using a common household cleaner to clean our countertops. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us.
Prolonged or extreme heat and flame can cause yellowing and damage the surface. In most cases, the damage can be repaired but it is still recommended that hot pads and trivets are used to protect the surface and prolong the product lifetime. Do not place high-heat cookware, such as electric skillets, frying pans, griddles or slow cookers directly on the surface without hot pads and trivets
Due to its non-porous attribute, there is no wax or sealant required for any special care of the product. Normal cleaning only requires soap and water or damp cloth with mild cleanser. If you have chosen a matte finish, you can use an abrasive cleaner like Ajax® or Comet®. When you do so, we recommend periodically cleaning the entire surface in a circular motion to maintain uniformity. Do avoid using strong acidic cleaners, such as those designed for drains, toilets and ovens. Some of these cleaners can cause whitening which can be difficult to remove. Please visit our Care and Maintenance document, and contact us if you have any further question.
LG/LX HI-MACS® is backed by an industry-leading 15-year fully transferrable warranty from the manufacturer.
